A recent job board client of mine told me a cautionary tale of getting his job board domain stolen…and it cost him $17,000 to get it back.
Apparently he had it registered with Blue Host, a somewhat popular WordPress hosting company when his account was hacked and the domain was transferred to another entity. He then had to use lawyers in court to sue for the right to get the name of the person who stole it from the hosting company which took over a month and cost thousands of dollars. The lawyers eventually got the domain back, but with a cost.
Hi site was down during this period so I’m sure he lost sales over it as well.
So just be aware that hackers are always out there trying to get valuable domains through nefarious means.
I recommend storing ALL your domains with a reputable company such GoDaddy or Google for safe keeping. They have security measures in place to prevent such a scenario. I always seperate my domains from any web host I am using so I have a single central place to manage the domains and have been using Godaddy for years like this with no issues.
