Part of the allure of a job board business is the fact that much of its operation is or can be automated. Since most job board operate as a self service business people can join and transact with the site without a human. Built in to most job board software is a mix of transactional emails that get sent automatically like welcome emails and forgot password requests.
But beyond those daily activities you can add more automation to the mix to help it grow.
In order to automate other parts of your job board you’ll need an XML and/or RSS of your jobs and blog posts.
- Social Media Distribution – using your feed links you should automate the posting of your latest jobs and blogs posts to your social media accounts to help augment those channels with content. Use a tool like Dlvr.it, Zapier or Buffer to cross post this content on a daily basis to help drive traffic back to your site.
2. Newsletters – Using Mailchimp I publish automatic newsletters to my users via their RSS campaign tool setup. Anytime I blog for example, that post(s) get sent automatically on a day/time of my choosing. Platforms like Jobboard.io and SmartJobBoard also feature integrations with Mailchimp so you can easily build your lists from site registrations.
3. Job Alerts – I was talking to a client last week with a custom built job board. The one major thing they forgot to build on it was email job alerts. Allowing seekers to sign up for a keyword search or if a certain company posts a job is essential for web traffic.
4. Pop ups – Things like exit popups or timed one to help capture emails or promote content are a good way to automate conversions. Check out a tool like HelloBar or even Mailchimp which has all sorts of popup newsletter subscribe options.
