Some job board owners seem to let their site wither and die on the vine.
But this post is about turning that around. I get it, sometimes you just cant keep up with the latest marketing trends or your main job gets in the way or life becomes just too busy to run it.
But chances are you aren’t monetizing it properly, and you probably need a better platform and rejuvenated marketing strategy.
I was looking at CareersinGrocery the other day when i got the idea for this post. They haven’t pushed out a social media post in 2 years and the site looks like it’s 10 years old.
But they should be in the spotlight at this very moment because grocers are one of the few employers who are hiring right now. That site should be making thousands per month right now, if they had the right strategy.
I talked to the owner of a two word premium domain for a certain blue collar industry the other day. He came to me for advice since his board wasn’t doing that well. As I looked it over I saw a variety of things he wasn’t doing and the answer to why became clear.
He wasn’t maximizing the revenue opportunities!
He had no back fill and a handful of jobs. He had no content . The site was built on wordpress and looked like shit. No wonder he wasn’t making any money.
What he should have done was hired me to move it to a better platform like SmartJobBoard where I would put not one but two backfills in place. I think every site today should have multiple backfill partners so you can provide as many jobs as possible to seekers. More jobs ensures they will come back. More jobs means more clicks. More clicks equal $$$.
One of my clients on SmartJobboard actually takes his Talroo backfill and emails those jobs to his Mailchimp list of seekers (in addition to the site job alerts provided by SJB).
He hired a developer to set it up through Mailchimp and is now making $3k per month just off the Talroo backfill! I praised him for his ingenuity. He also makes $2k a month by pushing his seekers to a resume write and is bring in nearly $2k per moth with that tactic.
The moral of this story is simple. You need multiple revenue streams and the best platform to thrive in the job board world.
Some job boards understand that, some don’t.
