One of the ways I have found LinkedIn to useful for prospecting is not InMails.
Inmails get almost no response when i try to pitch a prospective employer so I have turned to other ways to get their attention.
First I try to connect with as many recruiters and talent acquisition leaders as possible. I include a note that simply says “I am looking to add more recruiting professionals to my network and would love to connect”. Once they connect my posts can be seen in their feed. I get exposure to my links that I post on LI and they appreciate the news and products I share.
But lately I have been using comments as a way to get their attention.
For my site JobFairing.com, which is a free job search engine, I go onto LinkedIn and do a search for “hiring events” in the content stream. When I see a recruiter or employer that has posted one I leave a comment like this: “Quick tip: post your event to Jobfairing.com for some free exposure”. You can see an example below and the response I get from the poster.
This tactic works awesomely nearly each and every time I use it. These days I start my mornings by commenting on 5-7 of these posts and it leads directly to employers going back to Jobfairing to add their event. Plus some of them connect with me as well after doing so. Why you ask? I am delivering value with my comment by helping them promote their job fair.
If you have something to give away for free, try this tactic on posts that you see about job openings.
