Today I wanted to discuss an idea I have had for a while that you are free to use or build.
Differentiation is an important part of job board success. How are you different from your competitors? Sites that offer the market something unique have a strong chance at success. Unique could simply be a niche that is underserved or it could mean a site like this.
A REVERSE job board.
The concept is this: create a site where the job seeker is front and center. Create a site that allows job seekers to create a skills profile and state what kind of job they want and where they want to work. Then show them jobs that match their desires. Make the job seekers profile publicly available to search and market it as a sourcing tool for recruiters to search. Hide their contact info and charge the recruiter when they want to message them as well as a fee for crawling their open jobs.
You can use backfill to seed the site first and slowly add job scrapes as you sell them. Once you have some decent job seeker traffic..i.e., 100k profiles you can start to court employers.
A site where candidates expressly state who they want to work for, how much salary they want and which cities they are willing to work at is something interesting that I wish existed today.
