I bought a “used” job board this week. Jobmote.com an aggregator of remote job listings was for sale on Flippa and I decided to pick it up. I won it at auction for $805. Not bad for a 5 year old domain and a site with a few thousand visitors and Facebook and Twitter accounts with over 4,000 followers.
Why did I buy it?
A few reasons.
First, its an older job board with established backlinks. Therefore it has value. My plan is to put up Adsense on it to help recoup some of my cost.
Second, once I have don’t that I will redirect the domain to my other remote job board, JobsWithRemote which I started late last year. By redirecting jobmote.com to jobswithremote.com the latter domain will earn the domain authority from a more established domain.
Google likes domains that are “aged”. Therefore it will help JobsWithRemote rank faster in long tail seo searches.
Thirdly I wanted the social media accounts. I can now leverage them for traffic! By autofeeding my jobs from JobsWithRemote to the new Facebook and Twitter pages I can drive FREE traffic back to my listings and earn 10 per click from the feed I get from Jobg8.
The owner was overseas and Jobmote made no revenue so he was willing to let it go for cheap. Sometimes you can find good deals like this on Flippa that offer several benefits to an existing board. This is certainly the case here.
