Now that Indeed.com has taken over the world and turned aggregation into a primary service, other job boards are now entering the fray.
First Monster made an announcement a few weeks ago and then Linkedin says they’ll be doing it too.
I expect CareerBuilder to follow suit later this year.
These recent changes signal a shift in the online recruiting space. They are big shifts, so pay attention to them.
We are moving to a world where jobs are everywhere. Job listings are becoming a commodity. Because of aggregation, everyone site has jobs. SO that means you have to have something else beside jobs to standout. You need to offer;
– An engaged niche audience that fits that employers’ need
– No more boring job descriptions. They need to be visual, social friendly, mobile friendly, etc.(rethink your job page design)
– Email blasts to that same target audience…let employers pay to email your audience.
– Premium listings like an Ebay where certain jobs get highlighted in results. You can even offer free postings and only pay when you want to feature a job.
– Think of other ways employers can potentially talk to your job seekers. Sponsored blog posts? videos?
Because jobs will be everywhere its going to put a lot of price pressure on job boards for single postings. You’d better have traffic in order to prove the value of your prices. If you don’t you may have trouble growing sales.
Double up on your content creation. Job boards need to get better at creating content. You need to be a writing machine! Hire freelance writers or interns, but get it done. Crank out job search news, articles and career advice. Content = free traffic.
Ok so thats a bit of a rant on whats happening. I just sat down and starting writing so this is a rather raw post. But I’m glad I got it off my chest.
Cheers,
Chris
