I get this question a lot. What software should I use?
Well it depends. If you are just looking to create a simple site to test the market you are better off BUYING. There are plenty off the shelf options…webJobs, SmartJobBoard, Jobmount, Forcefinder, Jobtarget, Adicio, etc.
But if you want to be able to customize some aspect of your site you might be better off BUILDING it yourself. Of course this is usually the most expensive route so think carefully before you decide to build.
These days you can build something fairly cheap with the right developer. The bootstrap templates can make it look great without even hiring a designer. You’ll just need a developer to build it. In my experience this could cost between $5k-$25 depending on the scope and list of features.
Jobboard.io is built on this platform and it really makes it easier for any developer to create a nice looking site. All you need after that is a nice logo and you can get an awesome one on 99designs.com.
Last week I discovered a new job board called firstjob.com. They obviously created their platform from scratch. Since they are targeting a big market (college grads) they had to do so in my opinion because they needed to creat something new as oppsed to the existing stuff on the market (CollegeRecruiter.com, Experience, AfterCollege, etc) Its a crowded market so they have to be different in order to get noticed.
In my next post I’ll critique that site and show you more.
