One of my readers asks:
Our company is currently running a promotion to get Employers to post open positions on our job board. I’ve sent the email to our contact list of over 2,000 …however, the response has been very poor. Of the 2,000 emails that were sent only 139 have opened the email and a mere 12 have actually clicked on the link. Do you have any advice on how I can obtain better results? Also, what is the best way to obtaining an email list of companies that would be interested in posting on our job board?
First of all I’m not sure how qualified those 2,000 emails might be. It sounds as though they may not be recent enough or perhaps not the person who posts jobs for those organizations. In any case there are other ways to get leads that are more recent and relevant.
Secondly the subject of the email you send should be very descriptive of your job board. For my local job sites I use subject lines such as;
“Hire Locally with WashingtonDCjobs.net”
“Go Local Get talent with the AllCountyJobs.com Regional Network”
“Syndicate your jobs with Bostons top distribution job site EasternMassWorks.com”
Its very important to make your email stand out. Experiment with the subject line as its the first thing to pique their interest. Indicate some kind of benefit if they post with you. If you also feed into Indeed/SimplyHired mention that part as well.
If you need more help writing good emails for lead gen, google the subject.
I have written about lead gen before here and here.
Other job boards are THE BEST PLACE to get leads from. Just browse your competitors and find them. Email grabber is a great tool for this (if you need a tutorial you can hire me)….the idea is to crawl other job boards and collect email address that are publicly listed on the job ads and then send these leads a targeted email campaign.
I do this 2x a month for both Craiglist sites in my local markets as well as using Indeed.com
I scan indeed by querying the site in a certain are such as;
http://www.indeed.com/jobs?q=&l=Nashua%2C+NH&radius=10
For niche sites just query indeed with targeted keywords. For example to find companies posting java positions use;
http://www.indeed.com/q-java-jobs.html
I then take that URL, plug it into Email Grabber and run the script which takes a few hours to generate a list in the hundreds of emails. The longer you let the script run the more emails you will get. Sometimes I let it run overnight to get 1000+.
If do this consistently it WILL increase your sales. Just dont go overboard and email these leads too much. I recommend once or twice a month but no more than that.
