I’ve been paying to publish press releases each year that I have been in business. They give you pretty good bang for your buck. When you put one out you can usually expect a nice bump in traffic.
And then sometimes you get REALLY LUCKY.
I published a release called Top 10 States for Hidden Jobs which promotes one of my online properties. The story resonated with some big press outlets and got picked up by sites like BizJournals.com. Then I got an email from an AOL reporter. She wanted to do a story on it and emailed me some questions. The next day the story got premium exposure on AOL’s DailyFinance website. I struck PR gold.
My traffic went crazy. I got over 10,000 visitors in a few days time. At the height of the traffic spike I earned almost $500 in adsense clicks in one day. I also sold about a hundred .99 cent apps in the app store. Not bad for an investment of a few hundred bucks.
So the moral of this story is write an interesting press release. Reporters love stories about jobs and where they are. They especially like lists such as “Top Ten”. Find some kind of trend that your job board can write about and get it out there. You never know what might happen.
