A reader asks: what software are you using to create your home pages? Did you create your own logo or outsource the design?
First I do most of my own coding when it comes to creating a page for my job boards. If I’m starting one with Jobtarget I’ll create a template which is basically a placeholder design into which Jobtarget inserts their code. But thats for the hosted part. I usually like to keep the home page on my own server so I can have a little more control over things.
Its similar with Jobamatic sites although with them you only need to customize the header/footer on their system. I have some sites like AudioJobs.com which also have their own homepage. Its just a simple HTML page filled with keyword text and professional looking graphics.
I code it all in a software called HOMESITE which I have been using since I first learned HTML back in 1997. Its my tried and true friend when it comes to coding a web page.
I do most of my own graphics although occiasionally I will use 99designs.com to get logos created. But I mostly rely on Adobe Fireworks for graphics creation. I never got used to Photoshop and found it to clumsy to use. Fireworks is much simpler to learn. I created the AudioJobs.com header with it by finding some clipart and adding it to the name of the site.
WARNING: dont do graphics unless you are good at it. If you have no artistic talent, outsource your web design. Otherwise your site will look like crap.
