There’s been a lot of talk in the HR world about ‘skills based hiring‘. Essentially what that means is companies hire people based NOT on college degrees, but their actual quantifiable skills they have earned.
Problem is there is no central database of verified skills. A resume is just what a candidate wants it to be (its not verified). And LinkedIn is much the same.
But what if there was a main hub for skills that employers could search?
I imagine a certified skills database that contains all the certifications and skills platforms data from Github to Google Certificates to new lawyer’s who just pass the Bar exam. Each training organization would automatically enter in candidates into this database as soon as they finish their course, or other studies, along with the skills learned.
It could be a wide ranging skills database from trade schools like welding, pilots, nurses and more. Both tech skills and blue collar skills could participate.
I think its something that needs to exist today but does not.
I’m basically talking about a reverse job board where employers can search candidates that have verified skills from a verified learning organization. It would help them place candidates that go through their programs. Candidates could opt in or out of this database and could control their own profiles as needed.
It would be expensive to build but I think one day we might see a startup that tackles this problem by aggregating candidates according to their verified skills.
Just my two cents prediction of the future. 🙂
