Some niches are better than others to go into if you are launching a job board. There are a variety of ways to analyze that such as the growth of jobs in the niche and the amount of other competitors serving that space.
TradeHounds a company out of Boston is taking on the construction niche. There are relatively few construction job boards online today and the ones that exist are a bit old and stale.
TH is going about it in a smart way with mobile apps that are easier for their job seeker audience to use. To date they have built a “vast community of 175,000 tradespeople that are already using the platform to showcase their work, build professional profiles and expand their networks.”
The company got $4 million in funding this fall and is poised, in my opinion, to be the goto destination for these types of jobs.
Why? Trade Hounds is already the largest professional community for the construction industry. Their app is a one-stop shop for skilled tradespeople, companies and staffing agencies to find, connect and engage with one another.
I like the mobile app approach and look forward to seeing their community (which is what you need to focus on) grow and expand. Using an app is the easiest way to reach and engage these workers who may not have a computer at home.
