A reader sent this question and its probably the one i hear the most from newbie job board startups;
We were in the midst of custom job board and have run into a few challenges with our developer. At this point we are looking for a more efficient way to launch our job board.

I cant tell how many times I’ve been approached with this scenario. A new job board wants to build a job board but they hire a developer with little to no experience in building that type of platform.
A job board needs certain features and if you are going the custom built route you need someone experienced to build it. Unfortunately these folks are not easy to find which is why I usually recommend against building a job board from scratch. A job board platform needs a smooth onboarding process great job alerts, easy e-commerce and many more small and large details to make it work. Very few developers have this kind of knowledge.
I’ve had dozens upon dozens of these calls and they all end up in the same way. A partially built job board that doesn’t work!
My reply to these scenarios is always the same. You need to prove that your idea has traction first before you go invest in a custom built job board. Therefore its a better idea to leverage one of the cloud based solutions like Jobboard.io or SmartJobBoard that have all the important features you need to get started.
You must first prove your job board needs to exist. That takes a t least a year so why pour thousands into an unproven idea? The existing job board software companies have years of experience. Leverage that experience to get your site off the ground. If it works, you can build something custom later once you prove your site needs to exist in the market.
