The other day I received this email from Indeed.
I’d like to know what their machine was thinking when it generated this job alert. Needless to say I have never worked in, nor even been close to working in the field of psychology. So why did they send it? I wish there was a 3rd button that said “Not Even Close” because I would have clicked it!
I’m pretty sure it was machine generated because no human recruiter would ever send such an un-related job to someone with 20 years of digital recruiting experience.
In their quest to match job seekers with jobs the major job boards have boosted the number of job alerts in recent years in an effort to generate more applies. But emails like this are only compounding the spam problem.
They need to teach their machines to think better. I think job alerts need to have an additional filter for industry in addition to keyword/location as the basis for sending them. Otherwise emails like the one above are only going to continue.
Just my 2 cents.
