The web is becoming a more visual place. Just look at whats happening on social media. Linkedin, twitter, instagram and facebook are all about VISUALS. The reason is simple. Pictures make people happy. Pictures are more engaging than a plain old text tweet or a Facebook status update. Linkedin is really going visual, have you seen their new profile pages that let users post giant cover photos? And now Linkedin lets you upload pics from its mobile app.
What this trend means for job boards is simple.
Your job postings need to contain pictures.
Craigslist is already doing this. You can add multiple photos to any job listing. But just one will suffice. For example you could have a series of ‘we’re hiring’ images to let the employer choose from to add to each posting.
And look what a photo does for sharing them on social media. (see below example via G+) It makes it much more interesting and engaging.
I predict that in a few years most Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) will accept images in job descriptions. So should job boards. In face job boards need to lead this trend.
