Lately a lot of talk in the job board industry has been around aggregation. Linkedin will be going it. So will Monster. Aggregating jobs is becoming commonplace.
So what is a niche job board supposed to do?
I think job boards need to start adding their own aggregation. Its a feature employers are beginning to expect.
Niche Aggregators are the way to go. For example, if you run an accounting job board, start seeking out accounting firm xml feeds from providers like Jobs2Web, DirectEmployers or search company career sites for feeds and just take them. You’ll get more content and more traffic. A vertically focused job search engine is an excellent business model to try.
Thats what Indeed.com does. They just index the employer and then call them to get them to sponsor those jobs. This “freemium” model has propelled them into the recruitment giant they are today. They learned being aggressive when it comes to taking jobs works.
So think about taking your niche or local site to another level by adding more jobs at no cost to the employer. Then charge them to “sponsor” those jobs or upsell them on other features.
