A reader asks;
We are about to launch the website, and now the main question that still remains open is “That awkward moment when jobseeker or employer enters the website for the first time and finds out that our CV or Jobs database is empty”. How this problem is usually solved? What was your solution for this?
First of all NEVER EVER launch a job board without jobs. You will jinx yourself before ever getting off the ground.
Here’s how I would solve the issue.
1. Stock you job board with job postings through one of two ways. Get employers to post them for free or simply copy them from their career sites. They wont mind whatever free traffic you will give them.
2. Backup those postings with Backfill from Indeed, SimplyHired, Juju or CareerJet. Backfill has become a must have feature for job boards just getting started. Use it since it gives job seekers something to look at.
3. Use the first 6 months of your site to attract job seekers and only then should you start marketing to employers. By doing this you can build up an audience of seekers first so that when employers come calling you’ll have some. Spend money advertising to job seekers in order to build up that database.
