A reader asks;
I am thinking about starting a job board focusing on software developers experienced in one specific programming language (-one of those languages that most people have never heard of). I know there is demand for those specialized developers, since I used to be a headhunter, and placed a few of those. What I don’t know is whether this focus (one programming language) would prove too narrow for a job board. Do you have any advice to offer? Do believe it is viable for a job board to target such a narrow market segment?
My Answer;
If its very specialized your job board prob wont be very big in terms of revenue but it could possibly provide a secondary income stream from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars a month. It will take time to grow however and you’ll need to market it well during the first year…In the past I have created sites like this and built up several of them to form a green job network which I later sold. Any job board takes time to grow. I recently launched the UAV Job Bank which is getting 100 unique visitors per day (all thru SEO) http://uavjobbank.com/ but hasn’t attracted any postings yet. I havent begun to market it yet but will start to gather some prospect emails soon to blast out.
