I used to hate networking. Early in my career I was shy and introverted but once I had a business of my own it forced me to “get out there”. Early in the history of AllCountyJobs I got involved with the local chapter of SHRM in order to network with HR managers in my area. In fact I volunteered to build their first website which ingratiated me into that community. I became their “web guy”.
But I made it a goal of mine to network early and often in the recruiting industry. Today I have over 1800 Linkedin contacts, 5000 twitter followers and am well know in the industry. I attend all the recruiting conferences (not every year) which helps me connect with those I meet online. Its a great strategy to build my personal brand which correlates to my businesses.
People do business with people they know. So if you are a job board owner get out there among your prospects and get to know them. It will go a long way towards building your sales funnel. Make a point to go to 3-4 conferences and attend as many local events as you can. IT WILL PAYOFF. I am proof of that.
For an easy way to network better and see more events in your area, use 99events.com. For example here’s a search for recruiting events in Boston.
