A reader emailed me recently to ask how to get job seekers to come to his site.
And that my friends is the million dollar question.
When it comes to running a job board your marketing will make or break your site. Therefore if you are not familiar with internet marketing in general, you are at a big disadvantage. It also helps to pick the right niche that doesnt have a lot of competition.
You really must educate yourself on everything from SEO to PPC and everything in between. But let me get you started.
There is no one way to get job seekers it takes a multi-pronged effort. This is what you need to do.
1. Create content that job seekers want to read/consume. This means blogging, podcasting, videos all about job hunting and getting a job in the niche your site serves. Read this post about creating content.
2. Link building. Get people from blogs and other job related sites to link back to you. Or write a press release like this. That release got me some great links on related sites such as:
3. PPC. Buy keywords on google.
4. Pay the aggregators Indeed.com, SimplyHired, CareerJet, JuJu.com to send you traffic. This is one of the cheapest alternatives because you can get traffic for as little as 10-15 cents each.
5. SEO. Have a search engine friendly site. Learn as much as you can about SEO and let google do its magic.
6. Email marketing. Put a email capture on all your pages and encourage people to get a newsletter from you. Opt-ins are awesome. Build it over time and the emails will add up.
7. Email scraping. Read here. This is the most aggressive and free way to target job seekers. I use this tactic to scrape emails off the craigslist resume section using tools like Email Grabber. Then I email those people once a month which drives traffic to my site.
I also do training for email grabber so if you would like to learn more contact me.
All the above techniques need to be utilized to make your job board grow. Without them your site will not gain traction.
