A reader emailed me recently and asked how to evaluate an existing job board for purchase.
There are a number of things I look at. But only two things really matter.
Whats their SEO like?
Do they have paying customers?
There is a site on flippa.com for sale with a great domain name. Its consultantjobs.net. The listing says it gets 1000 monthly uniques. That sounds legit but there are some red flags that would make me wary.
The listing says the site has only been online since last November. The jobs on it appear to not be original so the owner may have been posting content on his own in an effort to get traffic. I dont see any way for an employer to post a job so that is why I’m suspicious.
Therefore I would be hesitant to pay more than $1,000 for this domain.
Most of the sites on flippa are crap but you can find some good sites from time to time. Just have to keep an eye on listings.
When buying sites I like to look for ones on page 2-4 of Google. Those are sites that are already indexed and have the most upside.
Here are some other ways to evaluate a site.
* Does the site have a good design? if it doesn’t its not worth a premium
* Does the site already get indexed by Indeed or Simplyhired? if they do and have been grandfathered in to their organic results it IS worth the price.
* How competitive is the niche they play in? the more competition you have the harder it is to get sales
