We all know you should advertise your job board board online. But have you given any thought to how to do that offline on the cheap?
It’s affordable and easy with local job fairs and business expos.
I’ve been attending these events in my local area for many years and it pays off by getting your name in front of job seekers and potential clients for ususlly just a few hundred bucks. You can then use this chance to pass out flyers to people as they pass by.
I attend two types of job fairs. The state of Connecticut holds them regularly and I can get a booth for $300-$400. Their events attract thousands of people so its a great way to advertise directly to people looking for work. The other type of job fair I like to go to are those put on by colleges and universities. They tend to hold them in the spring and again it costs just a few hundred dollars to participate.
NOTE: I dont accept resumes at my booth. I just have a sign that says “Please no resumes. Instead go online and upload it.”
The other cheap events are business expos held by chambers of commerce. These are especially useful if you run regional/niche boards because the other exhibitors are also potential clients. Just about every chamber in the country holds these so its a good cheap way to get your name out there.
So get started by getting some signage from PosterGarden and get some flyers via 48hourprint.com. I recommend 4×9 “rack” cards. Just upload your design and they ship right to your door.
