When you put a phone number on your site or email address, employers and recruiters will call you to get more info. Here are some of the most basic questions you are likely to get and how to answer them.
Can I get a free trial/posting?: This is perhaps the most frequent thing I hear. Especially if you are a new job board.
But I always say NO to requests like this. You might respond with:
“sorry but that devalues our business/brand”
“would you give away your product for free?”
I will also follow up a request like this with a discount code to save on a posting. Recently on my niche site, JavaforHire.com I got an email asking about free trials. I replied back by saying that we can give free trials due to our job board software but I could offer here a coupon to try it out for 75% off. She took the bait and posted the job the next day. {JavaforHire.com is not even a year old)
How do you get traffic/how much do you have? Its ok to exaggerate a bit when asked this questions. If you are a niche board I wouldn’t tell them anything less than 10,000 monthly uniques.
If you also sponsor your jobs on Indeed.com and SimplyHired you should also mention this. Those sites have millions of monthly uniques so any employer that posts a job is GUARANTEED to get some traffic. Use the aggregators to your advantage. They are now the quickest/cheapest way to get traffic.
I’ve never heard of you. Even I still get this question. After 13 years there are still employers that have never heard of my sites. So I tell them how long I’ve been in business and give them a history lesson.
If your site comes up in search engines on page 1 you can also mention that your site is very SEO friendly and that google sends you job-related traffic.
I hope these tips help. If you need help answering other questions like this drop me a note and I’ll see if I can help you out.
